This print is of animals that have an unspoken sensitive side, the Bison.Â
They are part of a series of animals I did where I wanted to depict beings that were not often shown within artistic works. While Bison are often depicted all over the United States, there are rarely depictions of the sensitive caring moments shared between them. I wanted to show that these beings are gentle, sweet, and majestic, not just a beast to be cautious of. Nothing is filled with tenderness quite like this mothers’ bond to her calf.
The image size is
15" x 11"
Border size is
2" each side
The image consists of seven layers of safe oil-based ink. Each layer was hand-carved on the same block in a reductive relief process. Every color was hand mixed to get warm tones that identify with Bison both young and grown. I used warm colors to study a monochromatic scheme, seeing how much depth and definition I could achieve with a limited color palette.
There are 11 prints in this Edition.
