This print is of one of my favorite animals, the Orangutan.
He is part of a series of animals I did where I wanted to depict beings that were not often shown within artistic works. Orangutans are on the endangered species list as of right now, and I wanted to have a friendly face that may bring some awareness to the issue.

The image is comprised of six layers of safe oil-based ink. Each layer was hand-carved on the same block in a reductive relief process. Every color was hand mixed to get organic tones that identify with Orangutans. I combined both warm and cool colors to give full depth to the face.
