This print is of a bird that has always appeared when I need a positive sign, the Blue Jay.
She is part of a series of animals I did where I wanted to depict beings that were not often shown within artistic works. Blue Jays have always caught my attention due to their striking color against the deep green of Ponderosa Pines. They tend to appear whenever I need a drop of positivity in my world, so whenever I glimpse one, I think of the encounter as a blessing.
The image size is

Border size is

The image consists of five layers of safe oil-based ink. Each layer was hand-carved on the same block in a reductive relief process. Every color was hand mixed to get cool tones that identify with Blue Jays. I used primarily cool colors to study a nearly monochromatic scheme, seeing how much depth and definition I could achieve with a limited color palette.
There are 14 prints in this Edition.
